What if I told you there are hundreds of free workout classes all over New York City that vary in intensity, day of the week and time of day. We’ve assembled a list of some of free fitness classes around the city including a little something for everyone. Whether you like high or low intensity or just need a little something to help clear your mind, take a peek at our list below.
Yoga and Pilates Classes
1. Pilates w/ the fitness Guru @ Brooklyn Bridge Park – Tuesday 7pm 6/28 – 9/6
Work on core strength while enjoying the summer evening weather and overlooking the classic New York City skyline. Mats are a first come first serve basis, so they recommend you BYOM (bring your own mat). What better way to get outside and get active than a free water front workout with your friends!
2. Sunset Pilates @ Brooklyn Bridge Park – Monday 7pm 6/28 – 8/29
If Tuesday evenings don’t work for you, Brooklyn Bridge Park also offers a Sunset Pilates class on Mondays at 7pm. However, this is a more advanced class done with upbeat music. Beginners are still encouraged to come and go at their own pace.
3. Bryant Park Yoga – Tuesday 10am & Thursday 6pm
RSVP for a free outdoor yoga class in Bryant Park. These classes are brought to you by Athleta and taught by instructors chosen by Yoga Journal.
4. The Rise: Flatiron: Form & Flow Thursday 6:30am
The Rise has early morning classes throughout the week all over the 5 boroughs for those early risers. One class in particular is a Yoga/Pilates class that focuses on core strength and balance. What a great way to start your morning than experience 23rd street before the mid day mayhem of overcrowded noisy streets begins.
Many athletic shops all over the city offer various classes and group workout session for free. Almost all offer free group runs. What better way to get exercise than run outdoors with a group who motivates you.
5. Jack Rabbit

6. Lululemon Run Club 7/26-10/31 Tuesday 9:30am
Meet at their Madison Ave. store to go for a 3-5 mile run throughout different parts of the city. They even throw in a little strengthening exercises a long the way!
7. NYRR Open Run every Tuesday at 7pm @ Brooklyn Bridge Park (check in at 6:45)

8. Hill Running @ Williamsburg Bridge Friday 6:30am
9. Boot Camp @ Bryant Park Wednesday 6:30 -7am – all year round
Also organize by The Rise, this high intensity boot camp will get your blood pumping and muscle moving to start your Wednesday morning off right.
10. Meditation @ Highline Tuesday 8am-9am 6/7 – 9/29
For those of us who are slow risers, meditation is a great solution. You might not be working your body, but you are at least preparing it for the hectic day ahead. Who knows, maybe you’ll take one of the above evening classes.
11. Senior Walking Club @ Pier 84 Manhattan Monday 6/6 – 8/15 11am – 12pm
If your body just doesn’t move like it used to, walking groups are always a great solution. You can socialize, while also working your muscles in a non-painful way. This walking club does have a set limit. It is a first come first serve basis until they reach 75 participants, so get there early and get registered!
